Slavery in Africa
Modern Niger slaves still in Africa. The slaves in Niger have to clean, cook, and raise children for their master. Woman as domestic servants and abused by their owners. If the slave has children then the children are automatically the slave owners property. Around 800,000 thousand people are slaves in Niger right now. Tamazrat Ousame is a woman who fight against slavery in Nigeria . She has passed a law in 2003 that criminalizes slavery, the jail time for slavery is up to 30 years in prison. The organization that Tamazrat Ousame belongs to is Timidra. They fight against slave owners and put slavery laws in place.
Child Labor is Africa
Boy ages 12 to 16 in Cote d"Ivoire are forced to work in cocoa farms to harvest chocolate. The boys are treated in inhumane conditions and extreme abuse by their master. Western Africa is the largest supplier of coco beans in the world. They work on small farms across Western Africa. Most of the boys come from a town called Mali, where agents hang around bus stations and look for alone or begging kids. The boys on these farms are not slaves but are paid almost nothing to work for their boss.
More than 40% of all of kids ages 5-14 have to work for survival. This is about 48 million children boy and girl just trying to survive. Poverty is one of the largest reasons why their is child labor in Africa.

Child jobs in Africa
Kids trying to survive in Africa work as street venders, shoe shiners, carpenters, tailors, barbers and domestic survents. A lot of working children in Africa are exposed to dangerous and unhealthy enviorments. Most of the kids in Africa work long and hard hours with their parents. Some of the children that work at tobacco fields are exposed to pesticides and chemical fertilizers in the fields. The reason why poverty is so high in Africa is because of the schooling. The parents of the child would pull them out of school to go work and help provide for the family. A school in Nigeria said that the school is more geared toward boys because in Africa the men make more money than the Woman.
